Raiganj Wildlife Sanctuary

Raiganj Wildlife Sanctuary (also known as Kulik Bird Sanctuary) is a heaven for bird watchers. It is claimed by some as Asia's second largest bird sanctuary. Spanning over an area of 130 hectares this sanctuary is home to 164 species of birds including Asian Koel, Red Whiskered Bulbul, Munia, White Breasted Water Hen, Magpie Robin, Parakeet etc. Every year thousands of migratory birds visit this sanctuary during winter. There is a watchtower for bird watching. Apart from birds there are around 64 species of butterflies and various species of reptiles at this sanctuary. The best time to visit the sanctuary is from September to January.


Getting There

Raiganj is the nearest railway station from Raiganj Wildlife Sanctuary.The station at Raiganj is connected to Kolkata by train. Buses are also plying from Kolkata to Raiganj. The sanctuary is 3 km from Raiganj. Rickshaws are available from Raiganj to reach Kulik Bird Sanctuary.
